The middle school years are a time when students begin to think more independently, develop their voices, and build the confidence to take intellectual risks. Our academic program is intentionally designed to support this growth through rigorous coursework, supportive faculty relationships, and opportunities for exploration.
Across disciplines, we nurture students who think deeply, communicate with purpose, and approach learning with curiosity and confidence—whether they are analyzing literature, tackling complex math problems, exploring scientific questions, engaging in civic dialogue, learning new languages, producing digital media, or designing technology.

Our Middle School academic program helps students become thoughtful thinkers, effective communicators, and confident problem-solvers. Through challenging coursework, meaningful relationships, and intentional skill-building, students develop the habits and mindsets that prepare them for Milton’s Upper School and beyond.
English
We cultivate independent readers and writers who engage deeply with literature while discovering their own voices. Through exploring diverse perspectives, students build empathy and critical thinking, learning to communicate with clarity and purpose. Because we believe the stories we read and write shape identity and strengthen our shared humanity.
Math
We facilitate students’ ability to reason mathematically by balancing inquiry with strong skill development. Through deep exploration of concepts and relationships, students learn to make sense of complex problems, think critically, and approach challenges with confidence. Just as importantly, they develop the ability to clearly communicate their thinking, articulating problem-solving strategies with precision and purpose.
Science
We empower students to become confident scientific thinkers who question, analyze, and make sense of the world around them. By applying scientific principles to real-world challenges, students learn to evaluate information critically and think with clarity and purpose. Equipped with these skills, they become prepared to make informed decisions and contribute thoughtfully as responsible citizens.
Social Studies
We equip students with the historical understanding, civic awareness, and essential skills to engage thoughtfully as global citizens. Through critical reading, analytical writing, in-depth research, and meaningful civil discourse, they learn to evaluate sources, build compelling arguments, and collaborate with purpose–developing the confidence and perspective to participate actively and responsibly in an interconnected world.
Computer Science
We teach students foundational programming while nurturing their computational thinking and creative problem-solving skills. As they learn to code, they become thoughtful creators who approach technology with critical analysis, empathy, and ethical reasoning. In mastering these skills, students are prepared not only to build innovative solutions but to shape the digital world responsibly and with purpose.
